Diode Laser Materials
Did you notice the LaserGrade Diode symbol with some of the materials on our website? This blue shield tells you that the material you are looking at is suitable for a diode laser. That will save your project and possibly your diode laser too.
Diode laser cutters are very popular among hobbyists especially, as they are affordable and compact. Everyone can make something beautiful with a diode laser and laser cutting as a hobby has become a lot more approachable because of it. However, there are a few limitations in relation to finding suitable materials for the diode laser.
On this page you will only find Lasersheets materials that can be used safely in the diode laser cutter. No need to worry about burnt edges, poorly executed cuts, and even unsafe situations.
Did you know that… open diode lasers are quite unsafe? It is better to invest a bit more money in a diode laser cutter with a hood. The ventilation is better, the machine is better protected when not in use, and the hood protects your eyes from the bright laser beam when it is cutting.
Lasersheets’ Diode Laser Materials
On this page you only find materials that can be processed in the diode laser safely. Are you the proud owner of an Xtool, Sculpfun, Ortur, Gweike or Glowforge Aura diode laser? Then this is the page for you. Here you find wood, cardboard, rubber, foam, and felt all suitable for your diode laser cutter. They have all been awarded with the LaserGrade Diode label and are therefore safe. Guaranteed.
Which materials for the diode laser do we sell?
- Woods for the diode laser, such as bamboo, MDF and plywood.
- Foam and rubber for the diode laser, such as acoustic foam, PE hard foam, neoprene, CR rubber, and soft foam.
- Cardboard and paper for the diode laser cutter, such as corrugated cardboard, felt cardboard, and packing paper.
- Other fun materials, such as double-sided adhesive foil, laser board and wool felt.
A Great Choice!
With these materials you are able to make many different things. Create an acoustic panel, for example, parts for your model (cut the smallest details with our laser board), or a box. With materials such as wool felt and CR rubber you add variation to your designs.
You will be able to create something beautiful with your diode laser, but the choice of materials remains more limited than for CO2 laser cutters. Diode laser cutters have not been available for very long, so this will no doubt change in the future. If you want to create something with acrylic, then you will need to use a CO2 laser cutter for now.
Which Materials Are not Suitable for Diode Lasers?
On our website you will quickly see which materials can be processed with your Xtool, Ortur, Glowforge Aura, Gweike of Sculpfun, diode laser cutter. There are three ways to make sure:
- Check if the materials have been awarded the Lasergrade Diode label.
- All the diode laser materials that we sell have been collected here on this page.
- Select ‘Diodelaser’ in the filters of your web shop.
This information might not be available so easily somewhere else. Most types of wood can be cut with a diode laser without problems, but if you are thinking about using a plastic, it is time to be ware.
Acrylic cannot be cut with a diode laser, for example. It will smoke, melt, and cause unsafe situations. Other plastics such as polypropylene, engraving sheet, HDPE, POM, PETG, PS, and a number of rubber types are also not suitable for use in the diode laser cutter.
