Not all materials can be laser cut with a diode laser, but this one can. We have extensively tested this material on our own diode lasers and approved it.
Please note; how thick your laser can cut this material depends on your laser power. Thicker sheets requires more power!
This means that this material is guaranteed to come from sustainably managed forests. By choosing FSC®-certified wood, we ensure that people, animals, and nature are better protected and the climate is less burdened.
Lasersheets is FSC® certified (C117418). Only products marked as such are FSC certified.
A widely used and universally applicable type of wood. It is hard, strong, and has a distinct wood look.
Properties
Birch plywood has been the most popular wood in our assortment for years. It is strong, hard, and has a distinct wood look. Birch is ideal for laser cutting. We offer two variants: European and Asian birch plywood. Both are glued with a special adhesive suitable for laser cutting. They are also B/B quality and have few internal knots. European birch is strong; Asian birch breaks a bit more easily but is more affordable. Birch is light in color and has visible but not overwhelming grain patterns. As it is a natural material, the appearance can vary from sheet to sheet.
Adhesive suitable for laser cutting
The adhesive used for this plywood makes these sheets ideal for laser cutting. This adhesive results in less soot during laser cutting compared to regular plywood. With optimal settings, the cut edge of our birch plywood is honey-brown and does not rub off.
Strong sheets
Due to the cross-grain gluing, this plywood is stronger than solid wood. There is always one direction in which these sheets are stronger, which is the longitudinal direction. European birch is our strongest wood type; birch from Asia breaks a bit more easily.
Birch plywood sheets from Asia have less internal tension, making them less prone to warping. These sheets are generally flatter than birch from Europe.
High quality
Birch plywood has B/B visual quality. This means that there are no knots and minimal repairs visible on the outer layers. It is therefore ideal for visible applications, as the front and back look good and have no unsightly blemishes. The internal layers are also of high quality and have few knots. This is also very important for laser cutters, as knots often cannot be cut through in one pass with the laser and can cause ugly burn marks.
FSC
3 mm and 6 mm European birch plywood originate from sustainably managed forests in Europe and are FSC Mix Credit certified. These sheets are a sustainable choice.
European or Asian Birch?
Are you unsure whether to choose European or Asian birch plywood for laser cutting? Both materials are glued for laser cutting and have B/B visual quality, so they are both high quality.
The difference lies in strength, flatness, and price. European birch is stronger; Asian birch sheets break a bit more easily. However, European birch plywood often warps due to internal tension, a problem we do not see with Asian birch. Additionally, Asian birch is more affordable. Meanwhile, European birch is the only one with FSC certification for the 3 mm and 6 mm thicknesses.
Are you looking for strong wood? Then choose European birch.
Are you looking for flat wood? Then choose Asian birch.
Are you looking for affordable wood? Then choose Asian birch.
Are you looking for wood with FSC certification? Then choose European birch.
Applications
Birch plywood is a universally applicable wood type that is widely used by laser cutters. This wood type has been our bestseller for years, and truly anything can be made from it. Here's a selection of what's possible with birch sheets:
Interior & decoration: wall decorations, lamps, furniture parts, home accessories.
Engravings & personalization: photo engravings, memorial objects, custom signage.
Technical & DIY projects: 3D printer enclosures, electronic projects, prototypes.
LaserGrade
Suitable for diode and CO₂ lasers. Birch plywood is LaserGrade and therefore perfect for cutting with diode and CO₂ laser machines. Which thickness you can cut depends on your machine's wattage.
Do you want a beautiful, natural wood type that is perfect for laser cutting? Birch plywood has been the most popular material among our customers for good reason for years; it is a versatile and reliable material.
