Where Can You Find Vector Drawings for Your Laser Cutter?

  • design

Your laser cutter works with commands. You give these commands to your machine via a programme on your computer, comparable to when you want to print something. And just as is the case when printing, your laser cutter also uses a file that is stored on your computer.

Laser cutters often work with vector drawings. The good news is that you do not have to design these yourself every time you want to laser something. A large number of vector drawings are given away or sold online. Why would you waste precious time on a design when someone else has already made it for you?

Here you find an overview of a number of websites where you can find (free) vector art. They are useful when you are in need of inspiration, when you have no time to design something yourself, or when you simply lack creativity that day.

What Are Vector Drawings?

Vector drawings are different from bitmap images (pictures), because they are not made up out of pixels, but of lines. Because of this, they do not lose quality when they are enlarged. Logos are often stored as vector drawing, for example.

You recognise vector drawings by their sharp lines and multiple planes. They are made with curves, points, lines, and other geometric concepts. Examples of well-known programmes which can use vector drawings are Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and Windows Metafile.

Find Vector Drawings Online: 8 Websites

The internet is full of websites where you can download and/or buy vector drawings in 2D and 3D. Generally speaking, the paid laser cut files are of a higher quality, but unfortunately, this is not always guaranteed.

We discuss the 8 websites that offer quality laser artwork for every laser cutter owner.

1. Dimensions.com

All laser drawings offered on dimensions.com are of a very high quality. Some are free and for others you need to pay. They have a large amount of both 2D and 3D laser drawings in many different themes, such as space and pop culture.

Dimensions.com is free to use. When you notice that you keep going back to it for your laser art, you can upgrade to Pro and benefit from more features.

2. Neubau Welt

When you look at the packages of Neubau Welt, you immediately recognise the high quality and beautiful designs. This comes with a price tag and for every package with drawings you pay 25 euros. If you will use them, this is money well spent.

The laser drawings of Neubau Welt are all 2D. There is a large choice and you receive several drawings in a certain theme at the same time, for example with bicycles, diggers, or flowers.

3. 3axis.co

At 3axis.co you will find vector drawings especially for your laser cutter. They are all free. You can find all sorts of drawings, from 3D wooden model cars to pill boxes and from earrings to board games.

You do have to check the quality when you get your laser artwork from 3axis.co. A lower quality is acceptable because you do not pay for these drawings, but you do want to make something beautiful with your laser cutter.

4. Etsy

There is always a place at Etsy for laser cutters and they also list plenty of vector art. You often have to pay for this, but the costs are low and most of the time you get a large number of vector drawings. Do not forget to store these nicely on your computer, so that you can easily find a drawing in a certain theme when you need it.

With Etsy the choice is large and you find really creative laser artwork there, which you would not find so easily somewhere else. We can recommend this website to everyone in need of something artistic and unique.

5. Thingyverse

You might know Thingyverse material for 3D printers, but they also have quite a lot of choice for the laser cutter. The only thing you have to do is use this as a filter. The laser drawings are free, but vary in quality. You can find everything here, from lamp shades to 3D puzzles.

6. Printables

Printables is also actually a 3D printer database, just like Thingyverse. Still, you can find quite a lot of vector art there when you use it as a filter. Make a Q-tip holder or use the laser cut files of Printables or laser a backgammon game.

The laser drawings of printables are free, so check the quality before you send them to your laser cutter.

7. Xtool Projects

The laser cut files of Xtool Projects can also be used in different laser cutters. There is plenty of choice in terms of free designs, but the quality is not always up to scratch. They also offer laser drawings that you have to pay for. If you want to be sure of good quality, that is often the better choice.

8. Vecteezy

The last website for laser artwork that we discuss here is Vecteezy. These laser drawings are free, but the quality varies. That is okay, as long as you are aware of it.

With Vecteezy you mainly find beautiful patterns and 2D drawings. There is plenty of choice, in many different themes. This makes this an excellent website if you are designing a print or a logo.
