We are regularly left with strips of foam of approximately 120cm x 20cm. These are leftover strips, because the industrial dimensions of our foam sheets are a bit inconvenient for the laser cutter.
With all the video calling we have been doing recently, we were made aware of how poor the acoustics are in our office.
1 + 1 = 2: acoustic panels made out of leftover materials :)
Jiskar has created a design in which the leftover strips can be used efficiently for acoustic panels. The strips are cut into four parts with an irregular pattern that breaks up the sound waves.
The individual parts are held together by strips cut out of 3mm thick HDPE . The design is for panels of 60 x 60 cm, but can be extended if need be.
Do you also want to make this panel? We share the design below.
Tip: you can also easily scale the drawing if your leftover strips are narrower.

Safety warning: not all types of foam are suitable for laser cutting. Some foams can be flammable and may produce harmful fumes. Always stay with your machine at all times whilst in use and make sure the room is well-ventilated.
