Prices for limewood and Asian birch plywood are rising. This is because the European Union has imposed an anti-dumping duty on plywood from Asia. European producers are struggling with the cheap import of bulk plywood from Asia.
Our wood types don't fall into the dumping category: they're produced specifically for Lasersheets and are of high quality. However, the levy applies to all Asian plywood types , which unfortunately impacts the price.
Dumping = a product imported from another country and marketed in the EU at an artificially low price, lower than the normal price in the country of origin.
What is the EU anti-dumping duty?
The European Commission has imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty on plywood from China. The EU hopes this will prevent cheap "dump material" from flooding the market now that the US is imposing high import duties.
The measure entails an import duty of 62.4% on top of the customs value (materials + transport). This provisional measure will remain in effect until December 2025. The EU will then decide whether to extend the duty. It is expected to be extended.
Why does this also affect Lasersheets?
The measure makes no distinction based on quality, but only considers the wood type. As a result, our high-quality lime plywood and Asian birch plywood are also subject to this levy, even though these materials are completely incomparable to the bulk panels the measure is actually aimed at.
Our plywood is specially bonded with an adhesive suitable for laser cutting . Standard adhesives produce a lot of soot during cutting, but ours doesn't. This means cleaner cuts, less rework, and a longer lifespan for your machine.
What materials are involved?
Linden plywood
Linden is relatively new to our range, but has already proven very popular. It's lighter than birch and therefore easier to laser cut: you need less power to cut the same thickness.
Furthermore, Linde has been a very affordable option until now . For professionals, this meant a healthier profit margin; for hobbyists, it meant you could create more beautiful projects for the same amount of money. Unfortunately, this favorable price will now increase slightly due to factors beyond our control.

Asian birch plywood
Asian birch complements our best-seller, European birch plywood . We deliberately added this material to increase our supply security. During the coronavirus pandemic, a major shortage of European birch arose, necessitating alternative sources.
The difference in quality between the two types is small: European birch is slightly stronger , while Asian birch has lower internal plate tension . This makes it virtually warp-resistant. Each material has its own advantages, and both remain valuable in our product range.
What does this mean to you?
To maintain the same quality, we are forced to increase the prices of limewood and Asian birch plywood by approximately 20% . We understand this may have an impact and are committed to being fully transparent about this.
We're doing everything we can to keep the price increase as low as possible, continue to critically review our offerings, and explore alternatives. But above all, we'll continue to provide you with materials you can truly rely on, so you can laser-cut beautiful projects.
