Sustainability is an important issue for us, which is why we strive to use as many sustainable materials for laser cutting. On this page you will find an overview of our materials with sustainable labels and explanations of what makes them sustainable.
Our vision of laser cutting as a sustainable production technique
Making new products always has an impact on the environment. However, laser cutting makes it possible to produce exactly what is needed, reducing overproduction and environmental impact. This makes laser cutting a sustainable production technique.
We are proud of our range of FSC® certified wood, including bamboo and birch wood. FSC wood comes from forests that are responsibly managed according to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines. The FSC label guarantees that you are choosing sustainable wood with minimal environmental impact.
In addition to wood, we also have a wide range of recycled plastics. Many of our acrylics, such as GreenCast and EcoCast, are made from recycled PMMA and consist of more than 99% recycled material. We also offer PET felt made from recycled PET, a strong and durable plastic perfect for creative projects.
The most innovative material in our range is BioPanel, a biodegradable plastic with low environmental impact. BioPanel is strong, but can be completely reused or degraded after use, making it a groundbreaking option in sustainable design.
Sustainability is trending, but not all claims are reliable. Sustainable labels, such as the FSC label, provide assurance about the origin and production methods of materials. This prevents greenwashing and helps consumers make responsible choices. Want to know more about the FSC meaning and why this label is important? We are happy to explain.
The market for sustainable materials is constantly evolving. At Lasersheets we are testing new materials that are suitable for laser cutting, such as sustainable bamboo, recycled plastic, PET felt panels, and biodegradable plastics such as BioPanel. These materials, including sustainable wood such as FSC bamboo, are not only functional, but also contribute to a more sustainable future.

Bamboo Plywood is entirely made from layers of bamboo, due to the crosswise gluing these sheets are strong and do not break easily.
Bamboo is officially a type of grass, it is cut down to the ground and then grows back quickly from the roots. Because it grows so quickly, it has a lower environmental impact than wood.

FSC mix 70%
MDF is a strong and affordable material that is easy to use. This material is made from pressed and glued wood fibers. Some of our thicknesses carry the FSC mix 70% certificate.

Our bestseller, birch wood is strong and universally applicable. This Plywood is made with laser-compatible gluing. Some of our thicknesses carry the FSC mix credit certificate.

100% recycled & recyclable
In a special factory, pre- and post-consumer acrylic is transformed into new raw material (MMA) with exactly the same high quality, both optically and mechanically, as new 'virgin' acrylic. Acrylic can thus be recycled indefinitely without losing quality.
Our own acrylic scraps (and those of Snijlab) are also collected separately and go directly back into this recycling process to become new sheets again.
There are various brands of recycled acrylic. Lasersheets supplies, among others, Green Cast® from Madreperla and ECO CAST® from Astariglas.

Green Cast®
Green Cast® is 100% recycled cast acrylic from supplier Madreperla.
The recycled acrylic is basically glass-clear, colorless sheet material. It is always colorfast and UV-resistant. The great advantage of this material is that it can be infinitely recycled without loss of quality. Therefore, the material can be very well reused.
It is a fully circular material.

EcoCast
ASTARIGLAS® ECO CAST is a recycled and recyclable type of acrylic.
Depolymerized-MMA (DMMA) with a very high purity (≥ 99%) is used as a raw material, exclusively produced in Astariglas's own factory, to produce high-quality recycled and recyclable cast acrylic sheets with the same quality as cast acrylic sheets made from new MMA.

BIOPANEL

100% Circular
Revolutionary material in the field of sustainability. Biopanel is fully biodegradable and recyclable.
Biopanel is made from 100% biobased materials, such as hemp and PLA. The production process uses little heat, which also results in a low environmental impact. Biopanel is strong and light, and it can serve as an alternative to, for example, aluminum.

PET FELT
70% recycled
Panels made of PET felt are made from 70% recycled polyester (PET), such as PET bottles. This felt is strong and provides good acoustic damping.
Because PET felt is lightweight, transporting this material is less burdensome on the environment than materials of comparable thicknesses.
