Our bamboo plywood sheets are stronger than side-pressed bamboo and offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plywood. This unique material is made from 100% FSC certified bamboo, with cross-laminated layers making bamboo plywood break-resistant in both directions. Plywood is also more homogeneous than side-pressed bamboo, allowing the laser beam to cut through it more evenly. Bamboo plywood is a fantastic material for laser cutting.
Our bamboo sheets for laser cutting are unique, as bamboo plywood is not common. The 3 mm and 5 mm thicknesses offer more rigidity than wood of the same thickness, while the 0.5 mm sheet is flexible and can be used as a veneer layer. This material is extremely suitable for laser cutting, with both diode and CO2 lasers.
Side-pressed bamboo vs. plywood
Side-pressed bamboo consists of compressed bamboo strips and is known for its beautiful grain, but breaks more easily because its strong fibers lie in only one direction. Plywood bamboo is a stronger alternative due to its cross-laminated layers, which makes the sheets sturdier in all directions. The lamination results in fewer thick knots; plywood is more homogeneous, making it easier to laser cut.
Eco-friendly alternative
These sheets are 100% made from FSC-certified bamboo, including the intermediate layers. This means they are entirely produced from bamboo sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Bamboo is a very sustainable material, as it is a fast-growing grass species (officially not wood, although it is sold as such). Because it requires little water and quickly regrows from the root after harvesting, its production has a low environmental impact, lower than most wood types. This makes bamboo an eco-friendly alternative to traditional wood.
Color
These sheets get their caramel color through a caramelization process during which they are heated. This process brings out the sugars in the material, which improves both strength and stability, and also gives the material a warm hue.
Applications
3 mm and 5 mm bamboo sheets are stronger than wood plywood of the same thickness, making them perfect for interior construction, furniture, and enclosures. The thinner sheets are flexible and do not break easily; 1.5 mm sheets are lightly flexible, while 0.5 mm sheets feel like stiff paper, ideal for curved elements like lamps.
All thicknesses of bamboo plywood are excellent for laser cutting with both CO2 and diode lasers, provided the correct wattage is used. This makes them ideal for decoration, displays, logos, boxes, gifts, keychains, precision work such as model making, and creating custom sustainable designs.
